19-Year-Old Girl Allegedly Takes Own Life After UTME Setback

In Ikorodu, Lagos State, the Odogunyan community is in mourning for Opesusi Faith Timilehin, who was 19 years old.
It has been alleged that Opesusi committed suicide following a dismal performance in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Following the untimely death of 19-year-old Opesusi Faith Timilehin, who reportedly committed suicide after being severely discouraged by her Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) result, a dark shadow looms over the Odogunyan community in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
Faith, who was from Ogun State’s Abeokuta but lived in Lagos, was determined to pursue a degree in microbiology. When she received a UTME score of 190, which was much below her expectations and, in her opinion, insufficient to gain admission to a university, she became emotionally overwhelmed.
This was not Faith’s first attempt at the UTME, according to a close family friend. The result this year was especially disappointing because she had taken the test before and done better.

Her prior score was higher, and she insisted that there was little hope for her future, the family friend revealed.
Shortly after seeing her results on Monday, Faith reportedly consumed a dangerous drug called “Push Out” in the area. Although she was sent to Kolak Hospital in Odogunyan, she could not be saved by the medical staff. Shortly after arriving, she was pronounced deceased.
In a tragic turn of events, she received an email notification offering her provisional admission to study microbiology just 30 minutes after her death. This was a bitter reminder of a desire that may have come true.
The email arrived shortly after it was established that she had passed away. “In fact, she had been offered admission,” a family insider disclosed.
Residents recall her as diligent, kind, and respectful, but her sudden death has left a void in the neighborhood.
Heartbroken neighbors and supporters expressed their dissatisfaction with the examination system, and her distraught parents flew from Abeokuta to arrange for her tomb. Many said that the young woman’s dejection was exacerbated by the emotional stress brought on by the average result in this year’s UTME.
