2023 PDP Deputy Governorship Candidate Emana Joins APC

Senator Bassey Edet Otu, the governor of Cross River State, formally welcomed Dr. Emana Duke Ambroose-Amawhe, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate for governor in 2023, to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Sunday.

Prior to her Sunday meeting with the governor, her wife, the APC state chairman, and the governor’s chief of staff, the former PDP candidate for deputy governorship had announced her defection to her new party via her X (previously Twitter).

The APC Chairman in Cross River State, Barrister Alphonsus Ogar Eba, escorted Emana to Governor Bassey Otu and his spouse after she announced her defection.

“I only went to greet His Excellency, the Governor, and His Wife, Her Excellency Bishop Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, as a mark of respect and to formally inform them of my movement,” Emana stated in a phone conversation with our correspondent.

“It will soon be announced when I will formally and ceremoniously join my new party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), along with thousands of my supporters and other prominent figures.”

Her membership in the People’s Democratic Party has recently resigned.

Her letter of resignation, dated March 28, 2025, was sent to the chairman of Edem Odo Ward in the Cross River State local government area of Akpabuyo. It was effective immediately.

She claimed that although she did not make the decision to leave the PDP lightly, she was still dedicated to helping her community and making other contributions to the advancement of Cross River State and the nation.

In the 2023 Cross River State elections, Dr. Ambros-Amawhe was Senator Sandy Onor’s deputy gubernatorial candidate.

She also ran on the PDP’s platform for the House of Representatives seat in the Bakassi/Akpabuyo/Calabar South Federal Constituency.
