2025 AFCON: Super Eagles Steer Clear of Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, and Côte d’Ivoire

On Monday night, January 27, the highly anticipated draw ceremony for the 35th Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals will be held at Rabat, Casablanca’s Mohamed V National Theatre.
Nigeria’s three-time African champion Super Eagles have been assigned to Pot 1. They will be positioned strategically to stay away from strong teams like Cote d’Ivoire, Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, and Algeria.

At the ceremony in Morocco’s administrative capital, the Super Eagles will be represented by Head Coach Éric Sékou Chelle, Team Administrator Dayo Enebi Achor, and Chairman of the NFF Technical and Development Committee Alhaji Sharif Rabiu Inuwa.

Starting on December 21 and ending on January 18, this competition is unique in that it is the first AFCON to continue from one year to the next. Morocco will host this competition once more after hosting it in 1988, when Cameroon emerged victorious. The country had previously been given the opportunity to host the 2015 finals, but it withdrew because of worries about the Ebola outbreak.
