Lawmaker claims Bello Turji imposes a ₦25 million levy on Sokoto villages.

The actions of infamous bandit leader Bello Turji have alarmed Sokoto State lawmaker Aminu Boza, who claims that he has levied a ₦25 million tax on villages in the Isa and Sabon Birni regions.
In a phone interview on Friday, Boza, who serves as the state House of Assembly representative for Sabon Birni Local Government, revealed this and cautioned that Turji’s power in the area is only going to increase.
At the moment, Bello Turji is in Sokoto’s Isa and Sabon Birni axis. In certain localities, he has even levied a ₦25 million charge each village, according to Boza.

He urged security forces to act quickly to stop the criminals’ operations and bring peace back to the impacted areas.

Arrest of a Major Arms Trafficker in Sokoto
Separately, local security personnel have captured a suspected arms dealer who is alleged to have supplied firearms to terrorist organizations in Sokoto.

In a Friday morning text message to reporters, Col. Ahmed Usman (retd.), the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, confirmed the arrest.

According to his announcement, the Sokoto State Community Guard Corps (SSCGC), Isa Division, has arrested Hamza Samaila Surudubu, a 35-year-old accused munitions courier.

The culprit was taken into custody along Shinkafi Road today, February 20, 2025. Civilian JTF and SSCGC Isa Division apprehended the suspect.

According to preliminary investigations, Hamza Samaila was on his way to supply ammunition and weapons to Halilu Buzu, Boka, and Turji.

“The matter was forwarded to security agencies for additional examination.”

To reduce criminal activity in the area, authorities have promised locals that existing security operations will be stepped up.
