Nigeria’s Elections Are Like War: Gov Aiyedatiwa Explains Wife’s Absence from Campaigns

Nigerian elections and campaigning have been compared to going to war, according to Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

Governor Aiyedatiwa reportedly claimed that he did not bring his wife, Oluwaseun Aiyedatiwa, along to campaign events for security-related reasons.
As a post-war celebration, the governor said in an interview with Channels TV on Monday that his wife accompanied him to the swearing-in ceremony for his second term.

He did, however, add that his wife was at home, praying for him and making arrangements, even though she was not out in public during his campaign.

During the campaign years, I was present with my deputy and all of our supporters, he said. Additionally, keep in mind that your wife is not present in the studio with you. That seems to be at work to me. You also don’t bring your wife to work with you. She was likely praying for us at home at the time we were running on the street, campaigning. She was present, however, and today is a formal occasion. Therefore, I’m not sure what you mean by that. However, when you are on the front lines of battle and working, you do not bring your spouse along. The election in this region of the world is like going to war, you know. As a result, no soldier brings his spouse to the front lines. They continue to do everything while praying at home. However, he will arrive after the conflict, and they will appear after the ceremony.
