Becoming Police Officer Was Never My Plan” – Nigeria’s Most Senior Female Officer

The most senior female police officer in Nigeria, Assistant Inspector General Aishatu Abubakar-Baju, has claimed that while growing up, joining the Police Force was never something she anticipated as a career path.
According to her, as a little child, she used to be scared of the Police.
Speaking with Channels TV, AIG Abubakar-Baju, however, said that all of that changed in 1995 after she performed her one year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) with the Nigerian Police.

It was said that disclosed it was during her service year that she fell in love with the Police force and proceeded to join the department.

Abubakar-Baju stated that she has no single remorse about taking that step to become a police officer.

“Being a police officer was never my goal. I have never considered it as a part of one of those careers. However, occasionally, fate also leads you to the place that God has planned for you. I was always telling people as a child that I was once terrified of the police.

Whenever I misbehaved at home as a child, my grandmother would remark, “I’ll call the police for you,” and I would hide under the bed. Therefore, my decision to become a police officer came as a huge shock and surprise to my family. I experienced what it’s like to be a police officer after completing my one year of service (NYSC) and interacting with Nigerian police officers. I genuinely fell for the work. I’m glad that I become a police officer. I keep stating that it’s fulfilling to be a police officer if I ever return to this world,” she remarked.
