$10 Million Scandal: Obaseki Is a Portfolio Scam Artist – Okepbholo to PDP

The administration of former Governor Godwin Obaseki, led by Governor Monday Okpebholo, has stated that it will not overlook the investigation into the use of $10 million.
Fred Itua, Okpebholo’s chief press secretary, stated that the government will not stop looking into the $10 million that was approved late under Obaseki, no matter how much spin the PDP tried to give it.
According to reports, Edo PDP Chairman Chris Nehikhare said in a statement that he found it regrettable that the Okepbholo vowed to investigate Obaseki’s government over the $10 million that was spent on Observer Press equipment.

Itua claimed in a statement released on Wednesday that Nehikhare was illiterate and failed to grasp the point made by Governor Okpebholo.
He emphasized that the administration would look into how the prior government used the money and tasked the PDP Chairman to counter their assertion with facts, not fantasy.

Not the refurbished equipment purchased from “Ogbete Market” in Enugu State, it stated: “The Governor was referring to the $10 million that Godwin Obaseki budgeted for The Observer Newspaper just prior to the 2024 governorship elections in Edo State.”

“Obaseki, a portfolio scammer who oversaw the looting of Edo’s commonwealth, quickly embezzled $10 million through The Observer Newspaper just a few days before Edo State’s governorship election in late 2024.

The desperate attempt by Nehikhare to change the subject is not only deceptive, but it also reveals the PDP’s ongoing dishonesty.

Nehikhare intentionally overlooks the true issue while discussing the so-called “sophisticated machines”—these overused and ineffective devices now need billions of naira to operate correctly. The current administration is now responsible for clearing the financial load that Obaseki left behind, even though he may have purchased them at a roadside market.

The confused indignation Nehikhare has expressed about the dismissal of Observer employees is more concerning. How can he expect people who are no longer working to be on site? Like the actions of the administration he naively defends, his reasoning is incorrect.

Nehikhare should provide an explanation for Obaseki’s decision to spend an astounding $10 million on a state-owned newspaper that is hardly noticeable on newspaper stands throughout the state and nation in his last days, when vital industries like healthcare and education were still underfunded. This is an absurd attempt at diversion.

“Nehikhare should present accurate facts rather than fantasy if he wants to argue the facts. However, it appears that the PDP’s preferred weapon is fiction.
