Since JAS leader Abubakar Shekau’s passing, ISWAP has reportedly been stepping up its presence in the Lake Chad region.
The defection of several Shekau-aligned Boko Haram fighters has greatly expanded the group’s numbers.
The insurgency has been largely contained, according to the Nigerian Army, which has continuously denied allegations of losses.
