EKSU VC Defends Dismissal of 13 Staff Over Sexual Misconduct, Other Violations

Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti (EKSU) has sacked 13 employees for sexual misconduct, desertion of duty, and other offenses.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joseph Ayodele, spoke during a news conference on Monday before of the institution’s 29th convocation ceremony, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to maintaining discipline among staff and students.
He emphasized that the university will not accept any type of misbehavior.

“Under my supervision, the University’s staff and student discipline has reached an exceptional level. Our administration despises all forms of misconduct, and those who engaged in acts of indiscipline have been suitably sanctioned in accordance with the University’s regulations,” he remarked.

The VC provided specifics on the disciplinary penalties, revealing that three employees were fired for abandoning their duty stations, one for sexual misconduct, and three others were restricted from holding leadership roles for three years.

In addition, nine staff members’ appointments were terminated, while 21 received warnings for other offenses.

In preparation for the convocation celebration on Saturday, March 29th, 2025, Professor Ayodele revealed that 200 of the 16,446 graduates from the 2022/23 and 2023/24 academic sessions will receive first-class honors.

According to the bachelor’s degree classifications, 5,406 students got second-class upper division, 9,076 second-class lower division, 1,295 third-class degrees, and four graduated with a pass.

The institution will also award 162 doctorates, 242 master’s degrees, and 61 postgraduate diplomas.

The Vice-Chancellor thanked Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji for boosting the institution’s monthly subvention from ₦260 million to ₦410 million. This move has helped clear overdue staff wages and allowances.

The University’s improved fortunes can be attributed to an increase in monthly subventions from ₦260m to ₦410m, which helped pay for unpaid salaries and allowances. Staff morale is good because people are motivated. “This has improved academic calendar stability,” he stated.
