For the 2027 General Election, Governor Bassey Otu and his deputy, Peter Odey, have been automatically nominated by the All Progressives Congress (APC) Cross River State chapter.
According to reports, Alphonsus Eba, the state chairman of the APC, said this on Monday.
Eba said that no one else had received an automatic ticket from the party, with the exception of the governor and his deputy, and asked other party members who were interested in running for office to start consulting.
Before the elections, he said, other candidates should go back to their constituents and ask for their support.
At their meeting today, the APC’s State Working Committee and State Executive Committee decided that Governor Otu will be the party’s only contender in 2027, he stated.
“No one alters a successful squad. In 2027, the governor will fly the party’s flag with his deputy.

The APC chairman went on to say that, similar to 2022, the party would only provide one ticket bearing Otu’s name even if he was hesitant to run.
“We urge him to pay attention to what the party members want and accept the nomination,” Eba said.
The deputy governor, who is currently serving as governor, was also commended by him for endorsing President Bola Tinubu’s initiatives in Rivers.
According to Eba, some people had misinterpreted the state’s stance. The interim governor’s clarification that the South-South governors had not consulted him before to opposing Tinubu’s decision was praised by him.
He praised the president for averting a political catastrophe by bringing peace back to Rivers.
