Minister Assures: Scrapping HND/Degree Dichotomy Won’t Affect Polytechnic Games

According to Education Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Nigeria Polytechnic Games will not be impacted by the Federal Government’s proposal to align university degrees with Higher National Diplomas granted by polytechnics.
Alausa underlined that the 22nd Nigeria Polytechnic Games, with the theme “Ijakadi 2025,” will go ahead as scheduled even though the government is striving to resolve the HND/University Degree dichotomy. The ceremony took place at the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Kwara State.
The minister said, “NIPOGA will continue, despite the government’s efforts to streamline the education sector,” on behalf of Dr. Ejeh Usman, Director of Polytechnic and Allied Education at the Federal Ministry of Education. We are dedicated to preserving polytechnics as a component of our curriculum.
In favor of a larger dual mandate for these institutions, he added that polytechnics that wish to provide degree programs might apply for accreditation from the National Board for Technical Education and the National Universities Commission.
