NANS President Claims Seyi Tinubu Ordered Thugs to Beat and Strip Him

Atiku Abubakar Isah, the president of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), has charged that Seyi, the son of President Bola Tinubu, and Ladoja Olusola, the leader of a rival faction, are to blame for his kidnapping by armed thugs in Abuja on Tuesday.
Isah reportedly claimed to have been beaten and subjected to dehumanizing treatment in a statement released on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.
At the 125th convention of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Isah also claimed that he was compelled to record an involuntary statement at the NTA studio, emphasizing that Seyi had proclaimed him an enemy following his resounding victory as NANS president.
The president of NANS insisted that he had petitioned Kayode Egbetoken, the Inspector-General of Police, and other security agencies on multiple occasions over the threats against his life, but that nothing had been done.

Isah went on to say that in order to best serve Nigerian students, he will continue to lead NANS without fear or intimidation.

According to the statement, “I was kidnapped in Abuja by thugs with guns on Seyi Tinubu and Ladoja Olusola’s orders.” My clothes were torn to tears, I was stripped naked, and I endured the most brutal and dehumanizing torture.

After that, I was hastily packed and taken to the station, where I was coerced into making an involuntary statement, all in collusion with the NTA Managing Director.

“Seyi Tinubu has sided with Ladoja and, for reasons only he knows, declared me an enemy since I was overwhelmingly elected president of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) at the 125th convention of the association. Since then, threats against my life have been continuous.

“I have submitted multiple petitions regarding this issue to the Inspector General of Police and other pertinent security agencies.

“I want to express my appreciation to the hundreds of Nigerian students throughout the federation who defended us and demanded our unconditional and prompt release. I also want to thank the media and Nigerians who want peace for raising their voices against my unlawful kidnapping.

“I will keep using the authority that has been freely granted to me to lead this association at this point in our history, and no amount of threats or intimidation will force us to cave in to the whims and fancies of our adversaries.

“Without fear or favor, we remain even more determined and committed to serving the best interests of the vast majority of Nigerian students.”
