Lawyers React Strongly to Colleague’s Murder by Gunmen in Imo

Due to the murder of one of their colleagues, Chinedu Nwowu, by unidentified gunmen, Imo State lawyers have temporarily suspended legal activities in three regions of the state.

It was learned that, in observance of the mrudered lawyer, courts in the three regions of Mgbidi, Oguta, and Omumma will not be open on Thursday, January 24.

On Wednesday, January 22, Nwowu was reportedly attacked and killed by a group of gunmen in his hometown of Mgbidi.

According to people close to the deceased attorney and his acquaintances, the shooters had surprised him, shot him, and double crossed his car while he was driving.

The leadership of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) in Orlu announced a boycott of court sessions today, further igniting the fury and concern surrounding Nwowu’s passing.

According to a memo for the NBA’s Orli chapter signed by Chukwuemeka Okoro, the announcement was made in protest of the member’s death.

Okro stated that an emergency meeting would be held in Mgbidi at ten in the morning.

“All lawyers of Oru/Oguta Forum are hereby notified of a crucial emergency meeting this morning by 10am at the High Court, Mgbidi,” stated Okoro, in response to the horrific death of one of us, CHINEDU NWOWU, last night in his town.

“Today, the High Courts of Mgbidi, Oguta, and Omumma will not convene. “Please be on time,” he said.
