Fubara Won’t Beg to Stay in Office – Removed Rivers Council Chairman

It has been denied by Ezebunwo Ichemati, the ousted Chairman of the Port Harcourt Local Government Area, that suspended Rivers State Governor Siminialayi Fubara bowed before his predecessor, former Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, to plead for forgiveness.
According to the sources, Fubara met with Wike in Abuja as part of a larger reconciliation effort to end the ongoing political unrest in Rivers State, it was learned.
A former Southwest governor and two All Progressives Congress (APC) governors are said to have facilitated the meeting.
According to reports, during the meeting, Fubara knelt and begged Wike for forgiveness, requesting assistance in restoring him to his position as governor.
But in a statement released on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, Ichemati claimed that although Fubara was in a good mood and dedicated to Rivers’ progress and peace, he would not do so with his knees to the ground.
Stressing that the claims were made up to deceive the public, Ichemati urged people to ignore the falsehoods.

“One who did not beg or lobby to become governor cannot also do the same to remain as one,” he stated.
It is unnecessary for a certain group’s propaganda to beg because no one party bears exclusive responsibility during a conflict.
“Reconciliation is not about pleading; it is about dialogue and ground shifting by all sides.
“Ignore the lies of begging, even if you are mumu and don’t trust any of the lies you are likely to hear, even if they make you feel good or appeal to your ego.
“For Rivers State to grow, peace is necessary. No matter how modest you believe him to be, Governor Siminalayi Fubara is in a very good mood and committed to the peaceful development of Rivers State.
