Oshiomhole: Atiku Is a Serial Defector, Unlike Okowa Who Defected Only Once

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has no moral authority to condemn former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s choice to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC), according to Senator Adams Oshiomhole of Edo North.
Oshiomhole claims that Okowa, who has only defected once, cannot be questioned by Atiku, a serial defector.

The former governor of Edo State reportedly made the submission on Wednesday while addressing at the Independent Television and Radio’s 28th Founders’ Day Lecture, which had as its theme “Nigeria, where are we going?”
As a sitting vice president, Atiku left the party that had given him the platform, joined another party, received its presidential ticket, and ran for office but lost, Oshiomhole recounted.

He went on to say that since the Supreme Court ruled that his actions were perfectly acceptable, the PDP leader has no moral authority to reprimand them because switching parties is his specialty.

I listened to those who attempted to assess the significance of Edo and Delta’s reunion with Governor Oborevwori and Dr. Okowa joining the APC.

“And those who are speaking, such as Atiku, who made it clear to us through his actions that a sitting vice president can leave and serve as vice president of an opposition party and still hold the position, and the Supreme Court has made a ruling on that.”

As president of the NLC at the time, I served as the unofficial opposition. After that, he moved to Bourdillon, Lagos, to join Action Congress, a different party, and ran for president, losing.

“The same individual who is more vocal in his criticism of Okowa once again defected to the PDP, ran for office, and lost; he then moved to the APC and ran against former President Muhammadu Buhari, but lost. He returned to the PDP and ran unsuccessfully against President Bola Tinubu, he claimed.

He said he was amazed that Atiku was attacking a man who had only decamped once from one political party to another.
