Funke Akindele: I Cried After Being Mocked for Not Having a Husband

Funke Akindele, Nigeria’s Box-Office Queen, has spoken out about being criticized for not having a husband after her marriage to Music Executive Abdurasheed Bello, popularly known as JJC Skillz, ended.
According to reports, the movie star stated on the first live episode of the ‘WithChude’ podcast that she has always been aware of the importance of therapy, but has never sought it out for fear of her personal life being exposed online.
Funke claimed to be a strong woman, but she broke down in tears after seeing a video of being criticized for not having a husband, prompting her to seek help from a therapist.

She went on to say that people should seek therapy and speak up.

She said, “I’ve always known that treatment is necessary, but I’ve never gone through it. You know, I’d say, “I don’t want anyone to hear about me.” They will go and spread the word. But I was dying quietly because I was acting strong.” Every time I shown strength, they threw more at me – at home, with family, at work, and in society. You are a role model for many people out there. I am a really strong person. I possess that strength, my God. Oh, I would hold my face hard. When Mum died away, I lost everything, including my prayer partner, the politics, the reaction, and the insults.

There was one video I watched. They were teasing me, claiming I didn’t have a husband. Women danced and mocked me. I broke down. I kept crying and crying. Then I reminded myself, “You need to speak with someone about this.” You cannot go on like this. Do you realize you need to speak up?

And I stretched out and started talking. I felt better. My therapist heard things I couldn’t tell anyone else. And now I am better. So I want to encourage you to speak up. Yes.”
