BREAKING: Borno Governor Zulum Imposes Ban on Petrol Sales Due to Insurgency

As part of fresh attempts to fight insurgency, Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has declared an immediate ban on the sale of gasoline in the Bama Local Government Area, which includes Bama town and the nearby hamlet of Banki.

In an effort to cut off supplies to Boko Haram extremists operating in the area, the decision was issued after discussions with security officials.
The declaration was made in a statement issued in Maiduguri on Saturday by Malam Dauda Iliya, the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Strategy.

“I have issued an order to immediately prohibit the sale of gasoline in Bama town, Banki, and other areas of the Bama Local Government Area,” Governor Zulum said.

The prohibition would be vigorously enforced, he stressed, and any effort to disobey the order would be met with violence.

Let me be clear: this ban will not be enforced with any exceptions.

Security forces are under tight orders to crack down on any fueling station or person who disobeys this order. He said, “Anyone found guilty will be dealt with appropriately.”

Growing security worries in the state have prompted the governor’s most recent action.

A resumption of Boko Haram strikes last month alarmed Zulum, who revealed that the insurgents had taken control of some military installations in the state.
