2025 UTME: Ohanaeze Demands 300 Scores for South-East Candidates, Threatens Legal Action

The youth branch of the Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, has requested that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) provide 300 scores to all South-East applicants for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Ohanaeze criticized JAMB’s decision to conduct a repeat examination for students affected by flaws in the 2025 UTME results, calling it deplorable.
JAMB Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede admitted on Wednesday, May 14, that mistakes contributed to the low scores of applicants from the five South-East states and Lagos State.

As a result, the Board declared that plans were ongoing to reschedule the examination for the impacted candidates.
However, in a statement sent to the press on Thursday, May 15, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, the National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, stated that this arrangement was completely unacceptable.

Okwu argued that JAMB was unreasonable in subjecting the candidates to ‘another round of mental torment, worry, and risk’ due to circumstances beyond their control.

“We want to announce unambiguously that our people will not accept any further examination after being exposed to mental torture by JAMB.

“The candidates are not in the correct state of mind to take another exam after experiencing mental torment since the bogus results were released.

“Besides, who will bear the cost? The same parents who are experiencing serious financial difficulties?

“What of the risk of moving to the examination locations, in a country ravaged by insecurity?” Ohanaeze inquired.

Nnabuike stated, “Having said this, we demand that JAMB allocate a 300 score to all South-East candidates affected by its own error, not that of the candidates.” Igbos are smart folks who may have earned 300 or more.

“It was a deliberate attempt to punish the people of the South-East by denying them educational chances.

“Should JAMB fail to heed to our request, we shall not hesitate to drag them to court, no form of crocodile tears by the Registrar will save the Board.”
