Sowore Appears at Police Headquarters for Interrogation Over Lagos Airport Road Extortion

Former African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate and organizer of the #RevolutionNow Movement, Omoyele Sowore, has arrived at Force Headquarters in Abuja to accept a police invitation.
On Monday, Sowore, his attorney, and a few supporters came at the police headquarters at approximately 9.45 a.m.
After Sowore took a video that went viral and exposed alleged extortion by police officers on Lagos’s Murtala Muhammed International Airport Access Road, the Nigeria Police Force called him in for interrogation.
CP Ibitoye Rufus Alajide signed the invitation on behalf of the Force Intelligence Department (FID) Deputy Inspector General of Police on January 23, 2025.
“This office is investigating case of resisting and obstructing public officers, disobedience to lawful order, acts intended to cause grievous harm or prevent arrest, compelling action by intimidation, reckless & negligent acts, refusal to assist public servant, and cyberstalking in which your name featured, prominently,” the invitation letter announced.

Sowore was instructed to report to Room 212 of the FID Complex, which is located across from Force Headquarters in Abuja, at 10 a.m., the letter stated. The letter made clear that Sowore was entitled to bring legal counsel and that the invitation was within the police’s constitutional investigation authority.
Sowore is seen approaching officers at a checkpoint on the airport route in the contentious footage, which has gone viral on social media. The officers were accused in the video of generating gridlock and extorting drivers.
The officers ordered Sowore to park his car as it drew closer, which sparked a confrontation.
