Chelle Excludes Osimhen, Lookman from Latest Super Eagles Lineup vs Ghana and Russia

Victor Osimhen and Ademola have been left off of the Super Eagles’ roster by head coach Eric Chelle for their match against Ghana in the Unity Cup.

This was verified on Wednesday afternoon following the release of the invited players’ roster by the Nigeria Football Federation, or NFF.

Nigeria’s matches against Russia will also be without Osimhen and Lookman.

Ahmed Musa, Frank Onyeka, Kelechi Iheanacho, and goalkeeper Maduka Okoye have all returned, though.

Junior Harrison Nduka, captain of the Remo Stars and the CHAN-bound Super Eagles B, Ifeanyi Onyebuchi and Collins Ugwueze (Enugu Rangers), Sodiq Ismail (Remo Stars), and Waliu Ojetoye (Ikorodu City) are among the NPFL team members.

Adamu Abubakar (Plateau United), Sikiru Alimi (Remo Stars), Papa Daniel Mustapha (Niger Tornadoes), and Saviour Isaac (Enugu Rangers) are also in the squad.

These local celebrities will face off against well-known players like Moses Simon, Stanley Nwabali, Wilfred Ndidi, Samuel Chukwueze, Cyriel Dessers, Nathan Tella, Tolu Arokodare, and Kelechi Iheanacho for slots.

Between May 26 and May 31, Musa will guide the squad to the Unity. Ghana, Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, and Nigeria are the four participating countries.

On June 6, Russia will welcome Nigeria in a friendly match at Moscow’s famous Luzhniki Stadium.

It will be the first time the two nations have ever met as senior internationals.

Prior to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Chelle said the competition “will give us the chance to try out a few new players in different roles, helping us to strengthen our squad before the matches in September and October.” Chelle hopes to test new players and strategies.
