Lagos Taskforce Arrests 62 in Midnight Crackdown on Suspected Criminals

During a midnight enforcement operation on Friday, members of the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offenses Taskforce arrested 62 people in various key places on Lagos Island.
Targeting areas designated as emerging crime clusters, the coordinated operation started at around 1:30 am and focused on Victoria Island, Falomo, the Eko Hotel axis, Osborne, and surrounding streets.
Officials claim that criminal activity and unlawful occupation have increased in several areas, necessitating immediate action.
The operation, according to the Lagos State Government, was a part of a stepped-up effort to clean up the city and handle security issues related to the actions of what it called “undesirable elements.”
Tokunbo Wahab, the Environment and Water Resources Commissioner, verified the enforcement action and the ensuing arrests through his verified X (formerly Twitter) profile.

“On Friday, May 23, 2025, at approximately 01:30 a.m., members of the Environmental Taskforce team set out and began their ongoing clean-up enforcement operation on the Island as part of the agency’s clean-up enforcement operation to rid the State of criminal elements,” Wahab wrote.
He also revealed that during the sweep, 62 suspects—59 men and 3 women—were captured, and that the enforcement action contributed to the restoration of order in all impacted regions.
Victoria Island, Falomo, the Eko Hotel, Osborne, and other nearby streets where the presence of certain undesirable elements was observed are among the sites investigated during the operation, according to Wahab. “Everywhere, sanity was restored.”
The Commissioner promised that those who were arrested would be prosecuted in line with the law.
“Every suspect will face the appropriate charges in court,” he declared.
