Benue Killings: Alia Attributes Attacks to Border Infiltration from Nasarawa, Cameroon Axis

Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has blamed infiltrators from neighboring areas and across international boundaries for the ongoing violence in some areas of the state, citing the state’s geographic vulnerability as the reason.
In an interview with Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Monday, the governor claimed that the state is a prime target for roving attackers because of its closeness to Cameroon, Nasarawa, and Taraba.
“With Cameroon, Taraba, and Nasarawa, we share borders,” he stated, adding that individuals who often assault the state enter from these borders.

They weren’t necessarily Nigerians speaking the Fulanis or Hausa we know, the governor of Benue State added.

When to arrive at Nasarawa’s axis. There are several difficulties for us here. When these people are moved out of Benue, they enter through certain routes, and there are certain events that take place in Nasarawa State. We wouldn’t object to someone characterizing what we see now as retaliation.

Abdullahi Sule, Alia’s colleague from Nasarawa, told him that he had received intelligence that “the terrorists were coming into his state through Benue.”

“They most likely came and made a touchdown in Yelewata in Benue and were heading back because he said one person was macheted in Nasarawa State,” he added when I informed him that the chaos had already been wreaked at Yelewata in Benue.
