2027: Wamakko Dismisses VP Ambition, Debunks Shettima Exit Claims

Senator Aliyu Wamakko, a former governor of Sokoto State and current senator representing Sokoto North, has categorically dismissed allegations tying him to a vice-presidential bid ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The report surfaced amid speculation that political realignments might see President Bola Tinubu replace Vice President Kashim Shettima with a new running mate. Wamakko, in a statement sent by his spokeswoman, Abdallah Shehu El-Kurebe, called the accusation “false, unauthorised, and politically mischievous.”

The article, according to Kebbe Local Government Chairman Abdullahi Yerima and published on an online site, suggested support for Wamakko’s supposed VP bid. However, Wamakko denied the idea, noting that “Senator Wamakko has never, publicly or privately, expressed interest in contesting for the position of Vice President in the 2027 elections or in any political arrangement of that nature.” Any such assertion is unsubstantiated, false, and extremely irresponsible.

Wamakko emphasized that he is still committed to serve the people of Sokoto State and Nigeria via responsible leadership, and will not be diverted by “opportunistic narratives concocted for selfish motives.”

In a separate event, Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda has denied speculations linking him to the vice-presidential ticket. His Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Mohammed, characterized the claims as “mere political permutations” and stated that Radda is still focused on carrying out his mission in Katsina.
