Nasarawa Governor Sets Up Panel to Eliminate Ghost Workers in LGs

A five-member committee has been established by Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule to purge phantom workers from local government districts.

Comrade Peter Ahemba, the senior special assistant to the governor on public affairs, revealed this information yesterday in Lafia.

He said that the decision was a component of the State Economic Council’s resolution from its most recent meeting in Lafia, which was presided over by Deputy Governor Emmanuel Akabe.

He stated that the purpose of the screening to ascertain the true number of LG employees was to prevent leaks and allow local governments to pay employees the N70,000 minimum wage.
He claimed that concerns about an overworked workforce, particularly in developing regions, made the practice even more necessary.

However, he stated that the move was not intended to interfere with the councils’ autonomy or to weaken the power of local government leadership.

According to Ahemba, all local government chairmen have been urged to participate in the federal and state governments’ efforts to promote food security by purchasing vast tracts of land that will allow them to grow any kind of crop.

He mentioned that Vice President Kashim Shetima recently visited the state and gave two tractors to each of the 13 chairmen in an attempt to encourage them in that direction.

According to him, Governor Sule ordered that the state and local governments pool their funds in order to ensure appropriate collection, accountability, and no leaks.
