Wike Warns Governor Okpebholo: “Don’t Prosecute Obaseki”

Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory’s Minister, has cautioned Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo against opening an investigation into his predecessor Godwin Obaseki’s government.
Speaking at a public event on Sunday night in Benin City, the capital of Edo State, Wike advised the new governor to focus his energies on development and governance even though he had personal motives for supporting an investigation.
“We must move on for the development of Edo State after going through this process in life,” stated the former governor of Rivers State. I should have advised you to follow this man since I am aware of what I have gone through. Don’t do it.

“I ought to bring charges against Obaseki, but what’s the point of life when God has placed you in a position of authority? You wouldn’t be here if it were his power, but God has informed him, “You don’t have it, and I have given it to whomever I want to give.”
“Leader, I understand your grief and the hardships you have endured; in fact, I know how humiliating it was for you. Because I made you look bad, I was involved.
“I’m sorry for what I did to you, and I apologized on national television. Let them take their wahalla and go, and concentrate on Edo’s development. You’ll see what you accomplish in the end.”
