Yahoo Boys Allegedly Attack EFCC Team in Anambra, One Officer Dead

Suspected online scammers, referred to as Yahoo boys, opened fire on the anti-graft agents in the Onitsha region of Anambra State, killing one officer of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and seriously wounding another.
According to information received, the Friday incident left several other people nearby with varied degrees of injuries as they hurried to safety from the surprise gunshots.
After traveling from the EFCC’s zonal offices in Enugu, the agents were reportedly attacked while attempting to capture a group of suspected cybercriminals.
The event occurred this morning (Friday), according to a source close to the scene who asked to remain anonymous because of the situation’s sensitivity. When the suspected online scammers saw the EFCC agents, they immediately started shooting at them.

“They immediately killed one officer in the process, and another who was seriously hurt was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was still in critical condition as of Friday night.”
The deceased, who was reportedly an assistant superintendent, had just finished a promotion exam. His identity is being kept secret until his family has been formally notified.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, verified the development when contacted and stated that an inquiry has been launched.
“The tragic tragedy is still being investigated. While the arm has been found, the suspect remains in arrest.
“Please communicate further details,” Ikenga continued.
