Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Set to Resume Senate Seat Despite Akpabio’s Protest

Even though Senate President Godswill Akpabio filed an appeal contesting the ruling, Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan announced her desire to return to the Senate on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, in accordance with a court ruling.
According to reports, Akpoti-Uduaghan stated that although her suspension may have hindered her legislative progress, it did not stop her from helping her constituents during a community empowerment program in her area.
“I have pretty much two months more before the six months expire,” the PDP senator said resolutely. I have, however, written to the Senate once more to inform them that, by God’s special favor, I will be returning on Tuesday, the 22nd.
Because the court did decide that, I will be present. Now, they claim that it is an order, but in reality, it is a decision.
Her remarks come after it was recently clarified that the court had decided whether her suspension was lawful rather than expressly ordering the Senate to reinstate her.

When asked how her suspension affected her, Akpoti-Uduaghan stated that it hindered her capacity to carry out the legislative portion of her job, but it did not prevent her from standing up for her constituents.
“I did mention that each senator has three main responsibilities: Legislative, which includes making laws and reviewing treaties; Oversight, which involves supervising ministers and agencies; and Representation, which is what I’m doing,” she stated.
She highlighted her achievement in getting her constituents’ issues represented in the federal budget and her ongoing interaction with them. Naturally, I miss posting my bills online, but that didn’t stop me from working, she continued.
The senator attested that she has officially notified Senate leadership in writing of her intention to resume work on Tuesday.
