No Shortage of Medical Staff at Iwo General Hospital – Gov Adeleke

Claims of a shortage of medical staff at Iwo General Hospital have been rejected by the Osun State Government.
According to reports, Dr. Akindele Adekunle, Governor Ademola Adeleke’s Special Adviser on Public Health, made this statement on Friday.
Adekunle clarified that the general hospital has been providing high-quality medical care since two physicians and two nurses were assigned there.

An advocacy group called THURIST-Nigeria made a bogus accusation about the hospital’s staff, according to the governor’s public health adviser.
Two physicians were sent to Iwo General Hospital to replace a doctor who had been serving the hospital for years. This was a standard transfer. A Level-17 officer with extensive expertise in providing medical services is one of the two hospital doctors who was transferred to Iwo General Hospital, highlighting the significance of the hospital to this government.

Likewise, two nurses who were moved from Iwo General Hospital were promptly replaced. He emphasized that staff transfers are common in all forms of governance because they guarantee that the people receive the services that are funded by the public coffers.

Despite acknowledging that the state’s health sector was being negatively impacted by doctors migrating to Western nations, Adekunle pointed out that the State Government was using President Bola Tinubu’s decision to raise the retirement age for doctors as leverage to fill the staffing shortage.

In order to allow the nation, including Osun, to make use of the human resources in the health sector to meet the needs of its citizens, President Bola Tinubu recently signed a law extending the retirement age of medical personnel by an additional five years. This is because of the serious challenge posed by the growing number of medical personnel leaving Nigeria for other countries.

Osun State is considering the possibility of replacing certain employees based on need, despite this fact. This is a continuous endeavor, and we wish to reassure the public that it will attract additional human resources for the provision of healthcare services,” he said.

The governor has authorized an infrastructure update for all secondary health facilities in the state, according to Governor Adeleke’s assistant.

He reaffirmed the Governor’s dedication to offering superior healthcare to the state’s citizens and indigenous people.

“As part of our continuous efforts to upgrade the infrastructure of our medical facilities, I am happy to notify the public, especially the people of Osun, that Governor Ademola Adeleke has given his approval to completely revamp the physical infrastructure of secondary health facilities, including Iwo General Hospital.

“As was done with the PHCs, Iwo General Hospital and others will undergo rehabilitation, upgrading their facilities to contemporary standards and providing them with some cutting-edge equipment to support efficient healthcare delivery. After professional assessments and a bill of quantities (BOQ) were completed, work at the different secondary facilities slated for repair would start in a few weeks.

Our administration is working hard to provide high-quality healthcare, and we ask the people to be patient with us as we do this. We are gradually taking practical actions to address the massive corruption in the health sector that this administration has inherited and guarantee that the people’s healthcare requirements are satisfied,” he said.
