ADC Claims EFCC Operates Like APC’s Department, Going After Opposition Figures

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has come under fire from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for allegedly using the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as a political tool against opposition leaders.
Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the National Publicity Secretary for the ADC, claimed in a statement on Monday that the EFCC’s recent actions—such as calling in opposition members and revisiting previous cases—were driven by political motives.
“The EFCC was established to be a fearless guardian of the confidence of the Nigerian people, applying the law equally to all, whether they are allies or adversaries, members of the ruling party or those in opposition.” “That vision seems to have been compromised today,” Abdullahi stated.
The anti-graft agency, according to the ADC, had given up its impartiality and was now acting as “a department of the APC, deployed to fight government critics and opposition figures.”

Additionally, it charged the EFCC with abandoning investigations into APC supporters while chasing opposition politicians with tenacity.

“The EFCC’s investigations into his administration have disappeared from public view since a certain former governor defected to the APC with the entire political apparatus of his state. Nobody has asked a question. Not a single document leaked. Not even one update? It seems that party affiliation, not proof, determines a person’s guilt or innocence in modern-day Nigeria, Abdullahi remarked.

Nigerians, not the APC, own the EFCC.
The EFCC and Nigeria’s anti-corruption efforts were losing credibility due to the apparent bias, according to the ADC.

The APC does not own the EFCC. The Nigerian people own it. Speaking on behalf of the opposition party, Abdullahi emphasized that taxpayers, not the ruling party, are funding it.

He cautioned that the use of public institutions as political enforcers erodes democracy and increases public mistrust.

The ADC advised interested parties to guard against political control of national institutions.

“The actual fight against corruption is being undermined by this perilous trend, which is also reducing public confidence in the institution. The party said, “We cannot for public institutions to be taken over for partisan purposes.
