ADC Coalition Launch Stalls as Hotel Withdraws Support Last Minute

There has been a setback to the African Democratic Congress’s (ADC) intended launch as a unifying political platform for Nigeria’s opposition.
Just hours before Wednesday’s program, the location where the event was scheduled to take place abruptly canceled a fully paid reservation.
On Wednesday morning, however, organizers received word that the hotel would no longer host the event because of an unidentified “internal compliance matter.”
On his Instagram feed, Dele Momodu, a leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), posted a screenshot of the hotel’s remark.
The note said, “Dear Patron of Honor, Once again, I want to thank you for selecting the Wells Carlton Hotel and Apartments.

We regret to notify you that we will not be able to host your planned event owing to an internal compliance issue that we have recently discovered.
“We sincerely regret any inconvenience this may have caused and acknowledge that the event is less than twenty-four hours away.”
Opposition leaders have responded sharply to the abrupt cancellation, with Momodu accusing political meddling.
“A jittery government continues to intimidate opposition as the hotel management abruptly and unilaterally canceled the coalition’s reservation of a venue for the unveiling of the adopted party, ADC, out of what insiders said was fear of retaliation from APC operatives.”
Momodu added, “However, this will not lessen the bold resolve of opposition forces who are ready to fiercely oppose the ruling party.”
