Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno Officially Defects to APC

Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has formally declared his affiliation with the All Progressives Congress (APC) after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Eno made the announcement on Friday in the state capital of Uyo, saying it was the result of three months of intensive discussions with important political figures around the state.

He said, “There has been a lot of conjecture in the political arena, especially in this state and throughout the country, regarding my possible departure from the PDP, the party that helped me become governor, for a while now.”

A range of opinions have been produced by this discussion. I’m here to answer those unanswered questions today. In the words of the Dalai Lama, “We should never lose sight of our common values, but we should always be open to change.”

Copies of Governor Eno’s official resignation from the PDP have been sent to the state and national leadership of the party, along with his ward chairman.

I sent a formal letter of resignation to the PDP ward chairman earlier this morning. The national and state chairmen also received copies,” he added. “I want to thank the PDP for the past two years of support, love, and the chance to serve Akwa Ibom under their banner.”

The decision, he said, was not made hastily but rather following a number of meetings with party stakeholders and political leaders. He mentioned meeting with important PDP figures on Thursday night for his final consultation.

“I think no one in this state’s political history has sought as much advice as I have before taking such a step,” he stated. Since you are all involved in the Akwa Ibom project, I did it out of respect for you all. I thought it was crucial to explain the rationale behind this choice and required your advice.

Eno explained his decision to defect by saying, “We must be able to interpret the times, flow with them, and not swim against the tide,” in response to the changing political landscape. Now that my consultations are over, I have made the decision to support the All Progressives Congress.
