Anambra Guber: LP Aspirant Nwosu Withdraws from Primary Over Abure’s Removal

John Nwosu, the Labour Party’s (LP) candidate for the 2025 Anambra gubernatorial election, has withdrawn from the contest.
Citing the Supreme Court decision that ousted Julius Abure as the party’s national chairman, Nwosu reportedly withdrew just hours before the party’s primary poll on Saturday.
In addition to declaring his intention to withdraw from the contest, Nwosu accused national and state party leaders in charge of overseeing the primary election of engaging in irregularities.
“After a thorough examination of all the actions, violations, and offensive behavior by the national and state Labour Party officials tasked with overseeing the conduct of the Anambra State governorship primary election, it is evident that they failed to adhere to the provisions of our beloved Labour Party’s Constitution as well as INEC guidelines and regulations,” he stated.
Nwosu further claimed that the primary delegates’ list was only published eight hours prior to the primary election and had been changed multiple times.

It is convincing and verifiable that a list of alleged delegates appeared despite the fact that no delegates’ congress was held in any of Anambra State’s 21 LGAs. In violation of election regulations, that list was changed multiple times and only posted at the party secretariat eight hours prior to the start time of the primary, he said.
He went on to say that he would not be able to run in the primary election because of his Christian beliefs and ideals.
He declared, “I am certain that my involvement in the primary will support illegality, undermine due process, and offend my sense of integrity, Christian values, and principles.”
He restated his resolve to pursue political goals in the future through legitimate, open, and equitable procedures and thanked his followers in Anambra State and beyond for their understanding.
