Baba-Ahmed: Tinubu’s Silence on Shettima Rumours Unsettling Ahead of 2027

Former political special adviser to President Bola Tinubu, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has expressed disapproval of the president’s lack of response to reports that he intends to fire Vice President Kashim Shettima before the 2027 election.

Rumors have been circulating about a purported attempt to remove Vice President Kashim Shettima from President Tinubu’s running mate list.

In an interview conducted in June, when the rumors were at their height, presidential spokeswoman Bayo Onanuga called the claim a “non-issue,” adding that President Tinubu will select his running partner only after accepting the nomination of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

But Baba-Ahmed, who left the Tinubu administration roughly three months ago, said the President ought to have personally refuted the rumor if it was genuinely a “non-issue” in an interview with Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday.

“I’m really interested in learning what causes all of these reports about Shettima being dropped. Baba-Ahmed stated, “I believe that the President ought to have taken action far earlier, somewhere along the line, to be honest.”
