Bauchi Varsity Under Fire from ASUU Over MoU Terms

The Sa’adu Zungur University branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), which suspended an indefinite strike based on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) just six months ago, has accused the university administration of not upholding the deal.
The union voiced dissatisfaction with what it called the university’s willful delay in implementing the Memorandum of Understanding in a statement released at the conclusion of its congress and signed by Comrades Auwal Nuhu and Yahaya Yakubu, the branch chairman and assistant secretary, respectively.
The university administration’s deliberate attempts to thwart the MoU’s advancement within the predetermined timeframe were noted by the congress with worry.
“Despite increased funding to the university in recent months, half the duration of the agreement has passed, yet a significant portion of outstanding claims remain unpaid,” the statement stated.

ASUU further claimed that the management had been evasive, frequently changing deadlines and hiding important details on calculated arrears intended for verification. The union views these actions as attempts to postpone the MoU’s full implementation.
Additionally, as part of its stalling strategy, the union accused the institution of purposefully withholding members’ salaries. ASUU promised to not waver in its demand for the MoU’s complete implementation in spite of this.
Auwal Hassan, the university’s spokesperson, did not reply when this complaint was filed, thus attempts to reach him were fruitless.
