Benue South security, economy top agenda as Idoma Association USA 29th convention kicks off in Houston
The 29th edition of the Idoma Association USA Annual Convention has officially kicked off at the Hilton Houston Westchase, Texas.
The three-day event, holding from July 31 to August 2, 2025, is focused on the theme “Strengthening Agriculture and Enhancing Community Safety in Idoma Land.”
The Och’Idoma V, HRH Elaigwu Odogbo and his wife, are already on ground alongside notable dignitaries, including Okpokwu lawmaker Rt Hon. Anthony Agom and other prominent Idoma sons and daughters from across the United States and Nigeria.
Speaking ahead of the convention, the National President of the association, Dr. Edwin Ochai, said the theme underscores the urgent need to address insecurity while boosting agriculture to drive economic growth in Idomaland.
“Insecurity is not just a threat to our lives; it is a barrier to our development. If we are to attract investment, create jobs, and drive economic growth, we must first ensure the safety of our people and property,” Ochai stated.
He stressed that strengthening agriculture would unlock the region’s economic potential by improving food production, creating jobs, and encouraging agribusiness.
The convention, which is being streamed live to Idoma people worldwide, is expected to feature discussions on security, agriculture, youth empowerment, and development partnerships.
The Idoma Association USA, a non-profit group, has over the years used its annual convention to promote unity, culture, education, and economic growth among Idoma people in the U.S., Nigeria, and the diaspora.
This year’s event is expected to be another milestone in advancing these goals and fostering greater collaboration for the progress of Idomaland.
