Boko Haram Attack Leaves Nine Dead in Borno Community

Boko Haram insurgents killed nine persons and injured four more in their attack on the town of Malam Fatori in the Abadam LGA of Borno state.

The event reportedly happened 272 kilometers from Maiduguri, the state capital.

“Babagana Zulum, the governor of Borno, sent a delegation to offer condolences to the victims,” the state administration said.

The team was led by the commissioner for local government and emirate affairs, Sugun Mai Mele.

The press release continued, “We are here to offer our condolences to the people of Malam Fatori for the recent unfortunate attack at the request of His Excellency, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, who is currently abroad on an official assignment.”

He assured that the administration and military of Borno State will do all in their power to protect the town.

Due to its strategic importance, we are committed to preserving the stability of one local government area, Malam Fatori. In an effort to stop such occurrences in the future, we urge the public to pray and become more resilient.

The commissioner said that excavators will be deployed to dig trenches around the local government buildings to deter future attacks by Boko Haram and ISWAP rebels.

Mai Mele advised the locals to avoid any kind of cooperation with the rebels since anyone found guilty would face divine punishment.

Each lost family received N500,000, while the four injured victims each received N250,000 as part of the government’s support.

The information and internal security commissioner, Usman Tar, also disclosed plans to move 3,000 displaced families to Malam Fatori, bringing the total number of resettled households to 5,000.

“The government of Borno state has already relocated 2,000 households, and it intends to relocate an additional 3,000 households shortly, bringing the total number of resettled households to 5,000,” said Tar.

“I want to reassure the people that the state government is prepared to make the required security arrangements, giving them the resources and protection they need to prolong their stay in their country.”

Residents were urged by Tar to report any suspicious activity to the police.
