Nigerians have come to the streets of Lagos to protest the economic challenges under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, as part of the June 12 Democracy Day commemoration.
The demonstrators assembled at the Ikeja Underbridge are demanding the reversal of specific policies imposed by the current administration.

Despite the presence of law enforcement personnel, protestors were seen waving placards with statements such as “Reverse Electricity Tariff Hike” and “No one deserves a death sentence for protesting against hunger,” among others.

It is understood that protestors opposing poor administration had previously occupied the streets of Ikeja in Lagos status to express their concerns about the country’s current status as it commemorated Democracy Day.
According to The PUNCH, Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, was on the scene to interact with the demonstrators.

Furthermore, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, had already used his social media handle to corroborate the ongoing demonstration.

Hundeyin shared video snippets and indicated that there was no need for fear.

He posted, “Democracy Day celebrants and demonstrators at Ikeja Underbridge. There is enough on-site security for both celebrants and protesters.

“No cause for concern. Your safety and security remain our top priorities. #LagosPoliceNG”
