BREAKING: DSS Shuts Down Offices of Lagos Assembly Speaker and Deputy

The offices of Speaker Mojisola Meranda, her deputy, and the assembly clerk were essentially sealed off when security officers from the Nigeria Police and the Department of State Security (DSS) forcibly invaded the Lagos State House of Assembly early on Monday.
By 10 a.m., it was discovered that armed guards had taken over the Alausa, Ikeja, property and were thoroughly inspecting everyone who passed.
The Speaker, Lasbat Mojisola Meranda, came with her escort at around 11:15 a.m., according to Vanguard.
Notably, the state lawmakers are being sued by former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, who is currently dealing with legal issues, who is arguing that he should not have been removed from office.

According to reports, Obasa has filed an application calling for an expedited hearing for his case before the State High Court’s Ikeja Division.
While in the United States, on January 13, 2025, 32 of the state Assembly’s 40 members dismissed Obasa from his seat in absentia.
Significant controversy has been generated by this issue, with members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), the main political decision-making body of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos, voicing differing views on Obasa’s removal.
