MoU Signed: FG, NLC Address Concerns Over 50% Telecom Rate Increase

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) about the anticipated 50% increase in telecommunications tariffs has been signed by the Federal Government (FG) and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

This was included in a Memorandum of Understanding that was signed Monday during a meeting that the federal government and the NLC called to discuss the potential increase in telecom tariffs.

NLC President Joe Ajaero, NLC General Secretary Mr. Emmanuel Ugboaja, Minister of Labor and Employment Muhammadu Dingyadi, and Sen. George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, all signed the Memorandum of Understanding.
Recall that on February 4, the NLC called for a one-day statewide mass protest in protest of the proposed rise.
The MoU states that agreements were made for the parties to convene in a technical group to address the majority of the difficult issues brought up during the conversation.
The creation of a joint committee including five representatives from the FG and the NLC is one of the resolution’s provisions.

Within two weeks, the committee is supposed to wrap up and submit its findings.
