Shehu Gabam, the National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), and two NWC members, Chukwuma Uchechukwu, the National Youth Leader, and Nnadi Clarkson, the National Auditor, have been suspended immediately, according to the SDP’s National Working Committee (NWC).
According to reports, in a statement released on Tuesday, June 25, 2025, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, the party’s national publicity secretary, revealed that party members had been suspended due to accusations of serious financial malfeasance, embezzlement, theft, and diversion of party funds. The National Chairman and other implicated NWC members have been suspended in order to allow for a comprehensive inquiry, according to Aiyenigba.
According to the SDP chieftain, Sadiq Umar Abubakar, the Deputy National Chairman (North), has taken over as the party’s Acting National Chairman in the interim in accordance with the party’s Constitution.
Aiyenigba went on to say that the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) and all other pertinent agencies had been informed of these officers’ suspension.
According to the statement, “The decision came after resolutions passed by the National Working Committee (NWC), wherein a substantial body of evidence was presented that connected the suspended officials to a number of illegal financial transactions, personal enrichment schemes, and the transfer of funds from the party’s accounts without the NWC’s approval.”
The initial revelation of this situation was that the National Chairman had submitted an unauthorized financial statement to INEC, as required by all political parties.
Newspapers also carried a synopsis of the bogus account. The NWC decided to notify law police of the bogus anomalies after learning of this.

“The NWC’s decision to suspend the National Chairman and two NWC members implicated in the egregious financial misconduct will also show the public that the Party, which is widely regarded by Nigerians as a disciplined party and a legitimate alternative political platform for national redemption, has zero tolerance for misuse of power and corruption. As a political party, we must always maintain our integrity.
“An interim investigative team has been established to examine all financial documents and suggest additional legal or disciplinary measures.
Together with donations and resources obtained from the sale of nomination forms for the general elections in 2023, as well as additional monies from the party accounts, the embezzled funds total hundreds of millions of naira.
“Nze Nnadi Clarkson, Uchechukwu Ogbonna Chukwuma, and Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam are suspended with immediate effect.”
