Fresh Tanker Explosion in Niger Destroys Shops, Vehicles [Photos]

Business owners are evaluating their losses after a gas truck explosion in Sabon Wuse, in the Tafa Local Government Area of Niger State, severely damaged a large number of cars, stores, and food supplies.
It was understood that a gas tanker was releasing its cargo at a nearby filling station at around 11 p.m. on Saturday when the gas explosion happened.
In a statement on Sunday, Abdullahi Baba-Arah, the Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), confirmed the incident and said that while no one was killed, the damage was significant.
Eyewitnesses told Channels Television that the explosion sent shockwaves through the neighborhood, making many fearful.
The resulting fire quickly spread, burning other stores and parked cars in addition to a nearby gas station.
Musa Aliyu, a local Sabon Wuse native, described the occurrence as horrific.
The fire was so fierce that people from all over the town could see its flames. In terror, people fled their houses. “We are grateful to Allah that nobody was hurt, but the damage is immense,” he said.

After a few hours, firefighters arrived at the scene, but by then, the fire had already destroyed a large amount of property.

In order to prevent similar incidents in the future, locals have urged authorities to impose stricter safety regulations on gas and petrol stations. The risks associated with handling flammable materials are brought to light by this explosion.
