CNG Slams Ganduje Over Call for North to Abandon 2027 Presidency

The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje has come under fire from the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) for pushing northern politicians to put off running for president until 2031 so that President Bola Tinubu can serve two terms.
CNG National Coordinator Jamilu Charanchi called Ganduje’s comments “deeply troubling and disheartening” in a statement released on Thursday, accusing him of putting his own interests ahead of those of the area.
Prof. Tukur Muhammad-Baba, the National Publicity Secretary of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), also offered his opinion, stating that his prior remarks on the matter were personal and did not speak for the ACF.
“I did not speak as the ACF National Publicity Secretary; rather, I spoke in my individual capacity. In a follow-up email to Punch, he said, “The ACF has not convened to discuss this issue and does not take party stances.
According to information obtained, the CNG accused Ganduje of prioritizing his personal interests over the advancement of the country in a statement issued on Thursday, raising doubts about whether he was satisfied with the status of the country.
It stated, “Ganduje’s decision to disassociate himself from the depressing facts is extremely concerning and discouraging to us.
Therefore, CNG wants to know if Ganduje is content with the current situation of great poverty, high inflation, ongoing instability, ongoing power outages, deteriorating educational standards, and a failing healthcare system.
Does he find Nigeria’s failing economy amusing? Does he think these mistakes are warranted or acceptable?
Is he implying that President Tinubu deserves another term in government despite all of these setbacks by removing himself from the facts?

Are we to believe that he put his own interests ahead of the advancement of our beloved nation? If so, we have to consider if this position is consistent with the principles of justice, equity, and responsibility that our people cherish.
The CNG went on to say that regardless of the President’s background, it expected Ganduje, as an older statesman, to value competence, integrity, and adherence to the law.
The statement went on to say, “We vehemently disagree with his stance and encourage Nigerians to select their leaders on the basis of competence, ability, honesty, and adherence to the rule of law.”
