‘Complete Falsehoods’ – PDP Slams Okpebholo for Misleading Tinubu on ‘No Vacancy in Aso Rock’

Governor Monday Okpebholo’s statement that there was no vacancy at Aso Rock was meant to deceive President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership, according to the Edo State branch of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to reports, Okpebholo announced that there is no vacancy in Aso Rock for the 2027 presidential elections on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Government House in Benin City, while welcoming the acting local government chairs of the 17 councils who defected from the PDP to the APC.
In response to the announcement, Chris Nehikhare, the Edo PDP Caretaker Committee’s publicity secretary, said in a statement on Thursday that what transpired in the Edo State Government House’s Festival Hall was content creation for the President and the APC leadership in Abuja to view.
In the State Government House, Nehikhare believed that no party member had defected to the APC and that all of the legitimately elected local government council chairmen on the PDP platform were still in office.

In a desperate attempt to deceive Tinubu and the APC leadership, he further asserted that Okpebholo is losing control of Edo State politics and has turned to lies.

It is very regrettable and disheartening that his circumstances have gotten so bad that he now needs to put together imposters in an attempt to reassure the President and his party leadership that he is still in charge, the statement says.

In actuality, however, he no longer has any influence over Edo State politics.

“To correct the record, no single PDP chairman has left, despite the false assertion made in the announcement by Fred Itua, Okpebholo’s chief press secretary. In Edo State, the PDP’s validly elected local government council chairmen are still in their positions.

Itua is attempting to impose Okpebholo’s unlawful appointees on the various local government councils, and the individuals he referred to as “chairmen” in his press statement are those individuals.

There have been no political victories for Okpebholo and his party in Edo State, as was falsely stated in the deceptive press announcement, therefore anyone he is attempting to impress or deceive should be cautious.

“The best way to characterize what transpired in the Edo State Government House’s Festival Hall today is as content creation for the enjoyment of Mr. President and the Abuja APC leadership.”
