Court Sentences Two to Death by Hanging for Armed Robbery

For armed robbery and attempted murder, an Abeokuta High Court on Thursday sentenced two men to death by hanging and one to 21 years in jail.

A four-count accusation that bordered on conspiracy, armed robbery, and attempted murder led to the conviction of Wale Adedeji, Akeem Sulaimon, and Wahabi Idowu.

In his ruling, Justice Olugboyega Ogunfowora stated that the court was certain beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendants had committed the charges against them.

Ogunfowora sentenced the three to 14 years each on counts one and two for conspiracy and armed robbery after concluding that the defendants were guilty as charged.

On counts four and five of conspiracy to commit murder and attempted murder, he sentenced Idowu to 21 years in prison.

Idowu was found guilty and sentenced to 21 years in jail with hard labor, while Adedeji and Sulaimon were given hanging death sentences.

The court was previously informed by the prosecuting attorney, Mrs. Bolariwa Adebowale, that the offenses were committed by the defendants on October 29, 2018, at approximately 12:30 am, at 40 Merroy Road, Safari Junction Onikolobo neighborhood in Abeokuta.

According to Adebowale, the inmates broke into the home of Mr. Rasheed Fajinmi, armed with knives and a cutlass, tried to murder him, and took his Ford Jeep, registered MUS 769FF.

The complainant’s clothing, shoes, four cell phones, two ATM cards, jewelry, a 32-inch plasma TV, and N64,000 in cash were all taken away by the inmates, she continued.
