Slain Anambra Lawmaker Justice Azuka to Be Buried on February 15

Justice Azuka’s family said Tuesday that the late lawmaker who served in Anambra State’s Onitsha North 1 Constituency will be buried on Saturday, February 15, 2025.
Azuka was believed to have been kidnapped on December 24, 2024, while traveling home for Christmas along Ugwunaobankpa Road in Onitsha. Early on February 6, 2025, his decaying body was found close to the Second Niger Bridge.
Following a court decision that declared Douglas Egbuna of the Peoples Democratic Party’s victory in the 2023 election invalid, Azuka, a leader of the Labour Party, regained his mandate.

Plans for the Funeral
Chinyelugo Azuka, the head of the Azuka family, signed a burial announcement stating that the funeral mass will take place at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Awka Road, Onitsha, and that he will be buried in his family’s home in Ugwunaobankpa, Onitsha.
Part of the funeral poster states: “Burning Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Awka Road, Onitsha, on Saturday, February 15, 2025, by 11 am.” By 10:30 am, his body would lie in state at Onitsha Stadium.

On Friday, February 14, the Anambra State House of Assembly will also honor him with a farewell session at the Hallowed Chambers in Awka.

Azuka served as both the deputy chairman of the House Committee on Public Petitions and the chairman of the House Committee on CSO Establishments and Labour Matters until his untimely death.

Somtochukwu Udeze, the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, characterized Azuka as a committed and selfless member during Tuesday’s session.

There was never any question about his devotion to duty. He was always willing to help and eager to learn. “He was an integral part of this Hallowed Chambers’ soul,” Udeze remarked.

The Assembly Complex in Awka has launched a condolence register for legislators, employees, and supporters to leave their condolences.
