Omo-Agege Opposes Okowa, Oborevwori’s Move to APC, Declares Delta a Stronghold

Ovie Omo-Agege, a former deputy senator and APC governorship candidate in the 2023 Delta State election, has vehemently denied that former governor Ifeanyi Okowa and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori would defect to the APC, saying that they are not welcome in the party.
Omo-Agege said the APC was the dominant party in Delta State and had been gaining ground. He made this claim while speaking to APC leaders, elders, and stakeholders in the Ika South and Ika North East Local Government Areas on Monday.

He pointed out that in spite of the PDP’s assertions that the APC was no longer relevant in Delta State, the party had won two Senate seats, two House of Representatives seats, and was expected to attract additional PDP defections.
The PDP disseminated misleading information following the 2023 elections, asserting that the APC had vanished from Delta. However, the APC gained two House of Representatives seats and two Senate seats in this state.

“You continue to claim that we are not present even though the sole PDP senator is scheduled to join the APC today? Are we not the party with the majority? Omo-Agege asked.

He added that the APC won two of the three House of Representatives seats and the Senate seat in the Delta Central Senatorial District, where he and Governor Oborevwori are from, while the Labour Party only got one. The PDP did not win.

The APC won five of Delta Central’s nine House of Assembly seats, while the PDP won four. Which party is actually more popular, then? He went on.

Omo-Agege denied that Governor Oborevwori and former Governor Okowa could join the APC, even though he welcomed other PDP leaders.

Everyone is welcome, with the exception of Okowa and Oborevwori. They ought to rebuild their party and stay in the PDP.

“We have worked hard to build this party from the ground up, and we will not let individuals with dubious backgrounds ruin it.”

APC members were also reassured by the former Deputy Senate President that any internal party issues will be settled before to the general elections in 2027. By the next election cycle, he said, the opposition party would be irrelevant due to the national crisis within the PDP.

“We ought to take advantage of the PDP’s more significant concerns rather than concentrating on our own internal troubles. Is PDP’s survival in 2027 even certain? Their national situation is getting worse.

“Winning the upcoming elections and re-electing President Bola Tinubu should be our main priorities.”

Three members of the PDP House of Representatives and a number of members of the House of Assembly were already planning to defect, according to Omo-Agege, who also disclosed that additional PDP lawmakers were expected to join the APC.

We will soon have three senators, and I know that three members of the PDP House of Representatives are joining the APC. We will also be joined by some members of the House of Assembly.

He said that members of the House of Assembly were being suppressed by Governor Oborevwori’s government, leading many of them to think of defecting.

Members of the Delta State House Assembly are being punished by Governor Oborevwori’s administration. As a member, you are not even allowed to speak; if you do, you will be suspended.

Therefore, we greet them all when they arrive. Okowa and the governor sheriff are the only two individuals who are not accepted. They ought to stick with the PDP and grow their party.

Party members were reassured by APC National Publicity Secretary Barr. Felix Morka that the APC National Chairman and other important players were dedicated to settling internal conflicts within the Delta APC chapter prior to the next elections.

Hon. Fada Ibudeh, Chief Stevenson Ikpade, Chief Sunny Chuks Obuseh, Hon. Fred Ofume, Pst. Paul Ebede, Lady Philomena Agholor, Dr. Goddy Ibeh, Dr. Chamberlain Dunkwu, Mr. Godwin Ogadi, and Barr. Eugene Uzum were among the party leaders who spoke at the event. They stressed the importance of true reconciliation in order to fortify the APC in the run-up to 2027.
