EFCC Under Fire: VeryDarkman Warns Against Arresting Tompolo

Recent remarks made by Olanipekun Olukoyede, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), in a television interview have been addressed by well-known social media critic Martins Vincent Otse, also known as Verydarkman (VDM).
Olukoyede warned against denouncing former militant leader Oweizidei Thomas Ekpemupolo, commonly known as Tompolo, over claims of defacing naira notes and stressed the value of a fair trial throughout the interview.
VDM responded with a video post that detailed a disturbing interaction with EFCC officers. He claimed that when at a bank, EFCC employees threatened to shoot his friend in the leg and pointed a gun at his mother. He claims that the agency took his phone and car under duress and that he has not yet been able to get them back, even though no official charges have been brought against him.
In sharp contrast to the way he was reportedly treated, he blasted the EFCC’s public position on fair treatment. Additionally, VDM conjectured that the agency’s actions might have been motivated by his telephone being seized.
VDM cautioned the EFCC against holding Tompolo in custody, declaring him a friend. If Tompolo suffered any negative consequences, he promised to publicly expose and shame the agency.

VDM brought up the son of well-known businessman Chief Okoya, raising further concerns about the agency’s consistency by implying that the EFCC neglected to investigate him in a comparable situation. He also blamed CBEX scammers, saying the agency should not have prosecuted them and that focusing on naira mutilation may deplete its funds.
Tompolo was not seen spraying money in the contentious video, according to VDM, which urged the EFCC to re-examine the clip.
Regarding a problem in a market in Anambra, VDM revealed in another section of his speech that he intended to petition the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). He called on the agency to take action as soon as the complaint is formally received.
This further exacerbates VDM’s ongoing conflict with the EFCC. A few weeks prior, his associate, Dkokopee, expressed public alarm after he was allegedly detained by the commission at an undisclosed location. He was detained for a few days before being released.
