Ex-FCT Minister Jeremiah Useni Passes Away at 82 After Long Illness

Former Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Lt. Gen. Jeremiah Useni (retd.), a respected military leader, died at age 82.

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang confirmed Useni’s death on Thursday following a protracted illness in a statement released by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere.

Governor Mutfwang conveyed profound grief over the loss, calling Useni’s death a “devastating loss to his family, Plateau State, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and the country.”

“Br. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, regrets to inform the people of Plateau State and all patriotic Nigerians of the former minister’s passing,” the statement said.

The governor commended Useni’s outstanding leadership and underlined his dedication to security, peace, and public service, especially in Plateau State and northern Nigeria.

Throughout his career, Useni held a number of positions in Nigeria, including those of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Quarter-Master General of the Nigerian Army, and Minister of Transportation.

He entered politics after leaving the military, serving in important capacities as the deputy chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party and, in 2015, as a senator for the Plateau South Senatorial District of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Useni’s unselfish service was praised by Governor Mutfwang, who also highlighted his services to the community, government, and military.

He said that future generations would be inspired by the late General’s legacy of kindness, charity, and commitment.

Mutfwang expressed his heartfelt sympathy to the President, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the immediate family, and everyone else grieving the loss of this illustrious elder statesman on behalf of his family, the government, and the peace-loving citizens of Plateau State.
