FAAN Confirms Safe Deboarding of Passengers Following United Airlines Emergency Landing

On Friday, a United Airlines flight headed for the United States conducted an emergency air return to Lagos, and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) rescue squad successfully disembarked 256 passengers.
The FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, confirmed the air return and stated that all passengers and crew members disembarked without incident.
Four passengers and two staff members, she claimed, had serious injuries, while five passengers and 27 crew members suffered minor ones.
She said the United Airlines Boeing 787-800 took off at 23.59 p.m. on Thursday from Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, but it returned to the air and touched down safely at 3.22 a.m. on Friday.
Eleven crew members and 245 individuals were on board.
At 3.37 a.m., the door was opened, and the team from Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting Services, Aviation Medical, and Aviation Security were already at the gate when the jet safely parked for deboarding at D31.
The disembarkation of all passengers and staff was safe, however two crew members and four passengers suffered critical injuries, while another 27 passengers and five crew members suffered minor injuries.

After being on standby and attentive, the rescue crew acted quickly and efficiently.
“Some passengers were taken to the Headquarters Clinic, while others were taken to the MMA Clinic by aviation medical ambulances,” she stated.
Those with more serious injuries were stabilized and moved to the Duchess Hospital in Ikeja, while those with minor injuries received first assistance and were released, according to Orah.
The airplane did not suffer any significant damage, she added, but some passengers were sent to a hotel for lodging.
She stated, “The authority will keep providing updates.”
