FG Suspends New Registrations for Polytechnics, Monotechnics for One Year

A one-year moratorium on new polytechnic and monotechnic registrations has been announced by the federal government.
The National Board for Technical Education’s Executive Secretary made the announcement in a statement on Thursday in Kaduna.

However, Bugaje pointed out that because of low enrollment issues, health institutions were spared from the prohibition, which was accepted by Tunji Alausa, the minister of education.
According to the statement, monotechnics will pay an application fee of ₦2 million and a processing fee of ₦1 million per program of study, while polytechnics that are presently awaiting ministerial approval will have to pay an application fee of ₦4 million and a processing fee of ₦2 million per program of study.
The registration procedure will be terminated if the prohibited fees are not paid within thirty days.
“Polytechnics that are awaiting ministerial approval will have to pay a processing fee of ₦2 million per program of study and an application fee of ₦4 million,” he stated.

However, for each program of study, Monotechnics will pay a processing charge of ₦1 million and an application fee of ₦2 million.
“Applicants have 30 days to pay these fees; if they don’t, the registration process will be terminated.”
“The same registration fees as Monotechnics will be paid by new health institutions, which are not subject to the moratorium.”
The new development’s goal, according to the NBTE executive secretary, is to guarantee that postsecondary Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutions are adequately staffed within their authorized carrying capacities.
